Final 2024 Litter League Cleanup Coming

The Friends of South Park Litter League will hold its final cleanup for 2024 on Saturday, November 2 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.  On that day, interested volunteers will convene at 100 Acres House, located next to the Park’s Haunted House on 100 Acres Drive.

On that day, volunteers will be asked to remove litter and other trash from around the Haunted House as well as around the nearby BMX parking lot and surrounding areas.

Now in its third year of operation, the Litter League is composed of approximately 30 volunteers, including many families who live throughout the South Hills.

“Volunteers can participate for the entire morning or as long as they like and all tools and cleanup materials, including gloves, arm extenders, buckets and bags, will be provided.

Park Rangers will also be on hand to help supervise the volunteers and answer any questions regarding local plants and wildlife.

While cleanups are typically not held alongside roadways, all volunteers are asked to wear brightly colored safety vests.

“No one is asked to clean an area where they are uncomfortable walking,” said Jason Fincke, Friends of South Park vice chair and Litter League coordinator.  “All efforts to keep the park as litter free as possible are greatly appreciated.”

Anyone interested in participating can sign up by contacting Jfincke@gmail.com.
