SOUTH PARK FRIENDS TO HOLD SPRING CLEANUP

The Friends of South Park Litter League will swing into action once again this year with its first cleanup scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2024.  Anyone interested in joining the group for the morning should meet at the South Park Skating Rink parking lot along Corrigan Drive at 9 a.m.

There, the group will be provided with all necessary equipment to pick up litter and other debris in the parking lot area and along Catfish Run and Corrigan Drive to the Route 88 (Library Road) entrance to the park.

“This will be the third year that the Friends of South Park Litter League will be cleaning areas of the park where litter often accumulates,” said Jason Fincke, Litter League coordinator and vice chair of the Friends of South Park.  “We typically have around 25 volunteers that participate because they care about the park and want to help remove unsightly litter.

“Volunteers often mention how much they enjoy participating, not just because of their contribution to helping clean the environment, but because of the camaraderie of working with like-minded individuals who enjoy using the park and making it a welcoming place for visitors from throughout the area.”

Families and persons of all ages are encouraged and welcome to participate in all or part of the two-hour cleanup.  South Park Rangers will be on hand to distribute arm extenders, safety vests, buckets, bags and gloves to volunteers as well as to help supervise and educate members on the wide variety of plants and wildlife in the park.

The Friends of South Park will provide refreshments.  Anyone interested in participating is asked to register for the event by April 17
